Basil:
Introducing Basil! 4 year old male blue heeler, desexed.
Basil is a loving and loyal, classic Velcro style cattle dog. For the past four years he has been a family dog but he would also do well on a property. He has pet insurance until Jan 2025.
Good Points:
- Basil gets on well with other dogs big and small, he is untested with other animals.
- He is patient and gentle with my two kids (3 and 5).
- He loves running around at the beach and other off leash areas.
- He walks well on the lead although he is 40kg so requires some strength.
- Basil loves to be trained, he is a devoted Velcro style cattle dog with good recall, and would flourish with a strong hand who had the time to give him a little extra training.
Areas for improvement:
- Basil is 40kg, he is not overweight he’s just a really big boy!
- Basil can be anxious in certain situations and when he is anxious he barks and can occasionally lunge or do the classic cattle dog heel. This is mostly in busy public places where he can become stressed or in protecting the home. Although he has never caused harm to a human or dog, his size makes this behaviour challenging.
- Can be stressed in busy public places when he is on the lead.
- Protective of the home and barks when someone is at the door or gate.
Basil has been a beautiful family dog for us but we have realised we are not able to meet his needs for exercise, stimulation and training. He would do well either with more space to run around, or with an owner who could be at home with him more often. We believe his behavioural challenges stem from anxiety and too much time alone at home and that he would thrive with a firm hand to train and support him.
Basil is located in Pottsville, Northern NSW however I am willing to travel (by car) for the right home, please call Hannah 0407946797 or email [email protected] for more information about Basil.
