Jett is a pure blue cattle dog, desexed and in good health. He likes nothing more than a play on the beach, a bit of ball throwing action and the chance to bark at the seagulls. He is a skilled sleeper, accomplished at sneaking inside when he thinks nobody is looking and very good at puppy dog eyes for emotional blackmail. He will eat anything – sometimes with regret afterwards, but is particularly partial to carrot, watermelon and a fat dollop of Greek yoghurt with his biscuits each morning.
He has been treated every month with Nexgard Spectra and never missed a dose. In late 2023, he was baited twice and after $8000 in vet bills, came home a bit the worse for wear. He is fine now, except he gets tired easily, so will never be a working dog as such. He is still good for long walks, running on the beach and chasing balls, but has no capacity for a full day’s work. As a result, he is not a fan of trips to the vet either. Regardless, all his vaccinations are up to date.
He is reactive to strangers (until you tell him it’s OK, at which point he becomes a lover rather than a fighter) and to other dogs (same applies). He’s fine around fireworks and other things that trigger some dogs, but he has a deep-seated and unexplained hatred of the whipper snipper. He can sit, shake, wait (for permission to eat a treat), drop, speak, go outside, come inside, get off the damn lounge and walk on a lead easily. He can ignore you as well as any cattle dog, when he is of a mind to.
We got Jett as a pup to help a member of our family who was going through a tough time after moving to town from a property. He filled our hearts instantly and when that family member became seriously ill, he never left her side for months. He would go outside to toilet, then go straight back to watching her in bed for hours on end. We have all cried into his fur at some point in the last 5 years and he has never judged us!
Jett is a fabulous dog. We love him to bits. He makes us laugh daily and is full of love for everyone. He wags his butt so hard when we get home that I worry he will hurt his back. He smiles like a maniac and his face can run the full gamut of human emotions, we believe! He has a beautiful smile…
We have talked for months about what we want for Jett. We want him to be happy, to be loved and to be able to enjoy a long life. He needs to be safe. We need him to be safe and happy and loved. He needs a big yard (not acres), a fence, a soft bed and company.
